Comme des Garçcons Co-Labs with The Beatles

The Comme des Garçcons/The Beatles collaboration we told you about back in September is ready to bear fruit, and we're pretty profoundly nonplussed by what we've seen so far. Rei Kawakubo had access to all Beatles iconography, photos and logos, and she didn't want to make "any unnecessary items that may in time come to resemble a Beatles souvenir shop." So she took the Apple Corps. logo and put it alongside her signature polka dots to make "strong, conceptual" items that resemble a Beatles souvenir shop.

The line includes 10 bags, five T-shirts and four shirts, and none of those items are cheap. The T-shirts are $115 and it goes on up to $860 for the most expensive of the bags, which are made "in Japan of embossed polyurethane or printed PVC and detailed with metal grommets, embossing and cords." Yes, you read that right, they're charging $860 for a PVC bag with pieces of flair. Seriously? WWD reports that the no-leather rule was a stipulation of the deal, so if they were selling PVC bags for PVC-bag prices you wouldn't hear a peep out of us. But there's no moral compass, popular rock band or designer label in the world that would make us OK with dropping nearly a grand on a polyurethane bag with studs on it.
