Couturious, the porthole describes itself as "an interactive photorealistic styling site." While the site's premise is a lot like styling-cum-social networking sites (such as Polyvore) that fashion has seen before.
There are a few unique takeaways. For one, Couturious "will be the first styling site to have Fall 2010 items from Alice + Olivia, Cynthia Rowley, Tibi, Tory Burch and Yigal Azrouel. (Although, at its launch the site will solely have SS10 wares). What's interesting about exclusives with particular FW10 collections is that it indicates a new evolution in online, styling-driven sites where such partnerships can promote branding as well as an air of cachet.
Not surprisingly, the folks behind the start-up are no slouches: Couturious is owned by Like.com, which recently acquired Weardrobe.com--a first of its kind site that gives wardrobe suggestions and links to specific items for sale based on actual street style looks.
Also of note with regard to Couturious, the fact that it uses 3-D models. And don't forget the social networking aspect. The combo of styling and sharing profiles and creations has proved a potent one for sites like Polyvore. Whether it'll have the same success for Couturious remains to be seen.
